In December 2024, HSH Prince Albert II inaugurated Mareterra, Monaco’s groundbreaking €2 billion eco-district. This ambitious project expands the Principality's territory by 3% and redefines luxury living through sustainability and innovation.

Mareterra, Monaco's pioneering eco-district, was officially inaugurated on December 4, 2024, by HSH Prince Albert II. This €2 billion land reclamation project expands Monaco's territory by 3%, adding six hectares of sustainable urban development to the Principality.

Project Overview

Initiated in 2017, Mareterra—formerly known as Portier Cove—reflects Monaco's commitment to innovation and environmental stewardship. The district comprises 110 apartments, 10 villas, and four townhouses, all designed by renowned architects, including Renzo Piano and Valode & Pistre. The development emphasizes sustainability, featuring energy-efficient buildings, extensive green spaces, and renewable energy systems. 

Sustainable Features

Mareterra is designed as a pedestrian-friendly eco-district, aligning with Monaco's goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. The development includes:

  • Approximately 800 trees planted across 27,000 square meters.

  • 200 electric vehicle charging stations.

  • 600 meters of cycle paths.

  • 21,000 square meters of pedestrianized areas.

  • Solar panels and rainwater reuse systems. 

Architectural Highlights

The district features several notable structures:

  • Le Renzo: A modern residential building with spacious apartments and penthouses.

  • Les Jardins d’Eau: Residences surrounded by lush gardens and water features, promoting outdoor living.

  • Les Villas: Unique beachfront villas offering unparalleled views of the Mediterranean.

Public Amenities

Mareterra offers numerous public spaces, including:

  • A one-hectare park.

  • A 750-meter seaside promenade.

  • Cultural landmarks such as the Mediterranean Space and Princess Gabriella Square.
